Blocking apps is critical to ensure Safe Browser isn't bypassed by 3rd party browsers or other apps. Setting up which apps are blocked on Android devices is really simple, just use the steps below.
Enable Device Restrictions
Device restrictions enable WebProtectMe to control access to applications you indicate should be blocked.
- From Safe Browser, open the main menu by tapping the
icon. Then tap Settings followed by Protection Settings.
- Tap the Restrict Device toggle to switch it to on.
- Tap Activate Device Administrator. This will prevent WebProtectMe from being removed without your WebProtectMe password.
- WebProtectMe also needs to be enabled as an Accessibility provider. This allows us to require your password when blocked applications are launched. Tap Go to open Accessibility settings.
- Tap WebProtectMe Device Restrictions.
- Tap the toggle to switch on WebProtectMe as an Accessibility provider.
- Tap OK to authorize WebProtectMe.
- Continue on to the next section to select the applications you would like to block.
Block Applications
(Please enable Device Restrictions first using the instructions above.)
Once device restrictions are enabled, WebProtectMe can block applications you specify by requiring your password when they're launched or resumed.
- From Safe Browser, open the main menu by tapping the
icon. Then tap Settings followed by Protection Settings.
- Tap Blocked Applications.
- Switch the toggle on for each application you want blocked. At minimum, we recommend blocking all applications under Browsers and Social Media.
Now when you launch the applications marked as blocked, you should see the WebProtectMe unlock screen:
Entering your WebProtectMe password will allow access to the blocked application for a period of time (15 minutes by default). You can change how long an application stays unlocked after you enter your password by changing the App Unlock Interval in the next section.
Adjusting App Unlock Interval
If you enter your WebProtectMe password in the unlock screen, the blocked app (and only that blocked app) will be temporarily accessible.
By default, the unlock interval is 15 minutes, but you can change it using these steps:
- From Safe Browser, open the main menu by tapping the
icon. Then tap Settings followed by Protection Settings.
- Tap App Unlock Interval.
- Choose the number of minutes you would like blocked apps to remain accessible after being unlocked and tap Save.
