Ever since the beginning of time, people have been trying to protect themselves from thieves, criminals and miscreants. Pirates knew which ships to plunder because they had all their property, valuables and prized possessions on deck: available for anyone to see, and inventory.
Knowing there are criminals in the world is nothing new. Keeping up with safety trends, on the other hand, can be a bit daunting.
Keeping mobile devices safe, in particular, is an ever changing horizon with new ways to intercept data coming out very day. According to the [1] report:
“Devices play a significant role in data breaches as assets targeted either for the data they store/process or because of their accessibility to the outside world. We often see devices used as tools to advance an attack, as well as device ownership and management often appearing as a factor in data breaches.”
Three easy ways for criminals to find a vulnerable device are:
- Mobile devices in public areas are open to Man-in-the-Middle attacks.
- Unencrypted tablets, especially on free/open wifi.
- Make it easy for intruders to get in: Don’t leave online services logged in, from bank accounts to social media accounts. Remember to log out!
